Olumo Rock I want to believe is a rock that provides unlimited oppourtunities if only we will see it with NEW eyes and our mind eyes. It is strategically positioned and as I like to take pride by the fact of being the Granddaughter of late Jimoh Odutola Of Ijebu Ode to claim that my roots are linked to Ogun state and Abeokuta, and this gives me the priviledge to share an interest in the issue recognised. But besides this, It is also a concern not wanting to see a Nation & State potential wealth ‘wasting’ away, not to say staring at us as if ‘begging’ us to see their worth, in the mist of our current created recession and poverty!

Thus, It was a source of pain and concern that since visiting this site to tour my country as the best place to be in this WORLD in spite of anything, that I decide to share this piece about this rock like no other that lies with ‘throbbing roads of heritage’ that can create job and wealth,in a town blessed with historical sites and ‘ historical corners’.
A hub of potential tourism attractions for indigenes of Abeokuta to generate resources, but what do you meet around this ROCK like no other?  First you ‘collide’ with a bad road network that leads to this site were just before it we have a new bridge that was built that generates no revenue!
This site was filled with overgrown grass around, cobwebs, a not very clean environment around the rock, a lack of hospitality restaurant, and loads of space to create an opportunity to generate revenue but hardly utilized. And I ask where are the GREAT SONS & DAUGHTERS of this Gateway State? Allowing this site and many more to be left this way? Where are the Great Women of Egbaland, allowing their ‘backyard’ and home to be left this way? This is a home call. This shouldn’t be.

Abeokuta may have more than 81 hotels from data I assessed but what is the use of these if there is nothing to come to see, unkempt and poorly maintained destination attractions, no tailored tours, what do we want tourist to come and see? How will we sell and showcase our cultural heritage? What legacy will we leave for the coming generation? That we are a wasteful people? That as elders we lack recognition of our heritage?
A whole domestic tour package can be created to sustain and transform this rock site, and surrounding, historical attractions many of our jobless youths can be trained to be tour guides, many of our daughters and sons can be sponsored to study hospitality careers and contribute to tourism around this site. October to November is already a festive and tourist time between Lagos, Abeokuta and other states of culture and heritage, loads of visitors teeming in and out.
If we sincerely wish for tourism to grow and create diversification, these are Tourist treasure, besides others like the St. Peter’s Cathedral, Sungbo Eredo monument just also about a few miles away from this rock. Is Abeokuta selling these treasures to tourist at home and abroad? Are its proud daughters and sons aware of these treasures? Many countries out there do not even have half of these treasures that lie in Abeokuta and many more states in our countries and are generating revenue for their country, people and economy. Egba daughters & Sons were are thou? This 'Rock like no other' Cries for you..............................
